"Need Picktees Woe Woes"

Elise sleeping peacefully during a nap
John Harrison has been sleeping in his pack-n-play, but loves trying to take "naps" in the twin beds in his room. He has been waking up pretty early quite a few mornings recently.....we try desperately to get him to go back to sleep....David even lets John Harrison cuddle in beside him in one of the twin beds....sleep is never successful, though....the other morning when John Harrison woke up early, David went into his room and put John Harrison beside him in one of the twin beds in an effort to get our son to go back to sleep....to no avail...John Harrison told David "need picktees woe woes" (translated: I want to look at pictures of the island lizards on your iphone). Sure, John Harrison, what better thing to do than look at lizard pictures at 6 am?! This morning after I was able to get Elise to go back to sleep (after waking up to brother's crying on the monitor), I went into John Harrison's room and let him crawl into one of the twin beds beside me so David could have a few relaxing minutes lying in bed. John Harrison quickly informed me "picktees baby" and so we looked at pictures of Elise on my iphone. He loves looking at pictures or videos on our phones or computers.....it is funny because he picks out a key word or phrase that he says in each particular video and names the video that and uses that word to ask to see that specific video.
We are becoming quite sleep deprived between our two children. Such is life with two sweet, young children...the joys and challenges go hand in hand!

More local color.....Would you like a skull to go along with that fresh fish, Sir?

I may not have too much hair yet, but there's no doubt I'm a cute little girl. Maybe by this time next year, Elise will have enough hair to put a big bow in her hair:).

Who knew....Elvis is alive, well, and riding a scooter

Somehow, even though I'd like to think that the King is vacationing in Key West, I have an eery feeling that Elvis was sighted numerous times across the world today. However, we did count ourselves among those fortunate to see Elvis in all his glory today. My mom and one of her good friends were actually working at Baptist Hospital in Memphis on August 16, 1977---the night Elvis died.

Daddy's Girl

Elise has been giving us kisses for a few weeks now---it's the open mouth and plant it on our cheek kiss---so very sweet!!

Elise is very much attached to David. I'll be holding her and she will gaze at David with a look that says, "Daddy, please smile at me!" When David smiles at her and talks to her, her face lights up and she bursts out in a huge smile. David is so good with Elise and can sometimes calm her down when I can't. I think Elise is well on her way to being very close to her daddy:).

Five Months!

John Harrison at 5 months....

Happy 5 month birthday, Elise! You bring so much joy to our family.
Elise seems to be a thrill-seeker at a young age.....and also is very much a Daddy's girl. The two go hand-in-hand :). Elise weighs about 13 pounds at 5 months, while John Harrison weighed somewhere around 17 or 18 pounds at this age. She stays awake for almost exactly 2 hours at a time and usually takes two really good naps during the day and then a quick catnap around 7 in the evening. She goes down for the night between 9:30 and 10:30....nighttime sleep has been challenging recently, but we are working on that :). Elise is starting to scoot a little bit--I'll put her on the blanket on the floor and she will sometimes scoot off the blanket. She loves to laugh, tries so hard to get our attention, and enjoys it when brother plays with her.

Blogging overload

Yesterday evening, we walked to a toy store near the pier. The store gave away free tokens to ride this carousel. John Harrison was thoroughly enthralled by his first horse ride.

We think our sweet baby girl is so beautiful (what parent doesn't think that their children are beautiful, though:)!!
It's only fitting that Elise wear this hat considering Key West is where Jimmy Buffett became famous.

Sweet brother-sister moment

Local color

World's largest beach ball? People pay to get inside this orb and "walk on water."
Fish (mammal actually) out of water! If you zoom in on the far right side of this tenement on wheels, you will see the word "dolphin." It is not often that you spot an amphibious creature out of its normal habitat, but somehow, this one made it onto dry land. Amazing...
Fresh coconut milk, anyone? For only $5 per coconut....
It's Christmas year-round to this guy.
There was a guy in college I knew whose hobby was taking pictures of people by a street with their name on it. A bit strange, huh? Well, I guess I have some strange in me, too, considering I like taking pictures of local oddities such as the ones depicted in this post.
Look closely and you will see that this specimen Honda Accord has antique automobile plates. I am not a car expert, but I would imagine this is a late 70s model hatchback.....kind of strange that a car not too much older than I am is considered an antique.

First few days...

John Harrison checking out the beach--shortly after taking this picture, we received a lot of unsolicited parenting advice from a drunk guy on a bike. Hearing his morsels of wisdom has revolutionized the way we are raising our children.
Elise with Uncle Jon
Elise napped almost the whole way from Miami to Key West (about a 4 hour drive)
John Harrison on our drive from Miami to Key West...don't be deceived...his nap was short-lived.
This is a much belated upload, but I wanted to post a few pictures from the first few days we were in Key West.
