Vintage baby

rows of ruffles

While deciding what Elise was going to wear today, I came across this bubble/one-piece outfit that I had worn as a baby. It has quite a bit more lace and ruffles than I like on baby girl clothes, but I still thought it was cute and nostalgic. Most of the baby clothes my mom saved are smocked dresses my Grandmother made for my sister and me (starting when my sister was just a few weeks old). I ordered some cute bloomers so Elise is all set to wear one of these smocked dresses to church on Sunday---pictures to come! I wore smocked dresses frequently from the time I was a newborn through when I was in 5th grade. Ok, now looking back, 5th grade seems so old to still be wearing smocked dresses....it may be hard to believe, but there were still a few of my friends in the 5th grade who still wore dresses or outfits that their moms made....times have changed!! Even though they aren't quite suited for 5th grade girls anymore, smocked dresses are still so classic---I think it is so cute for little girls to dress in an adorable smocked dress or outfit with a big grosgrain bow in their hair. Elise just doesn't have enough hair for the bow yet:). (Just FYI, Elise isn't as pale as the photos make her out to be...I am just getting used to the settings on my camera phone).

Day with Grandparents

John Harrison spent the day with my parents on Monday. I enjoyed having a little more downtime than normal during the day:), took a quick nap, and got a little cleaning done. David and I also ran a few errands---including one to the Verizon store to become iphone 4 owners!

Catching up on April...

I wanted to post some of my favorite pictures that I have taken so far this month and list a few things about our two sweet children....

Elise.....
at two week doctor's visit was 20 1/2 inches long and weighed 6 lbs 13 ozs
eats about every 3 hours during the day and every 1 1/2 to 3 hours at night...we have had a few times at night when she slept for 4 hours, but that is pretty rare
seems to be smiling purposefully when she is happy
likes the front carrier most of the time, but doesn't like the sling
enjoys being swaddled at night and a lot during the day
lies on the blanket on her tummy several times per day and is getting fairly strong neck muscles
loves snuggling and being held
will often calm down if we gently stroke the top of her head (David discovered this trick:)
wears newborn size and small 0-3 month clothes (she is long and thin like her brother was at this age)
met her Great Grammy for the first time the end of March and Great Grandpa for the first time last weekend
won't take a pacifier (other than on two occasions that each lasted for less than 5 minutes)
John Harrison.....
wears 18-24 month shorts and pants and size 2T shirts
likes playing with his magnetized building tiles ("magnets" according to John Harrison)
enjoys looking at books and being read to
likes coloring for short periods of time
is able to say lots of words, but still isn't very verbal (often communicates with signs)
loves his sister, gives her lots of kisses, and often points out her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and toes
reminds us at least once a day that he is indeed 2 (with actions, not words)
favorite foods---strawberries ("stawbees" or "dawbees") and blueberries
favorite drink--iced peppermint tea with stevia
